SACRAMENTO – Senator Mike Morrell, R-Rancho Cucamonga, today issued the following statement following Governor Jerry Brown’s 2018 State of the State Address:
“The governor’s State of the State Address was filled with promises of utopian dreams of a government bureaucracy that plans, controls, and owns more of our state’s resources and capital – all at the expense of taxpayers.
“As one of his crowning achievements, he points to his signing of $52 billion in higher gas taxes and pain at the pump when Californians already pay among the highest income and sales taxes in the country. He defends his decision, at the stroke of a pen, to release over 40,000 prisoners. He also doubles down and fudges the numbers on high-speed rail by at least $40 billion, suggesting that it is on budget when we know that not to be so.
“To sum it up, the governor continues to turn left with his socialistic agenda of big government. Getting our state back on track will require limiting government’s power, not increasing it, restoring control to the people, and ensuring government works for us and not the other way around.”
