The second annual Patriots of the Past, Present and Future Recognition Ceremony, hosted by Senator Mike Morrell, R-Rancho Cucamonga, has been postponed to later this spring. Originally, the event was scheduled for Friday, March 13.
Community members are still encouraged to nominate individuals, businesses, or organizations based in the 23rd Senate District to be considered for recognition. Nominees should be clearly identified as either a Patriot of the Past, the Present, or the Future and the category in which the individual or organization is being nominated (Business, Education, Public Safety and Community Service).
The event will honor veterans, reservists, members of the National Guard, and businesses and organizations that have supported them. “Patriots” (one each from the Past, Present, and Future) will be recognized in four separate categories - Business, Education, Public Safety and Community Service - for a total of 12 awards.
“Patriots” are defined as:
Patriot of the Past: A veteran of a conflict such as World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, or other event.
Patriot of the Present: A currently enlisted service member, a reservist, a veteran of a recent conflict such as the Gulf War or Operation Iraqi Freedom, or a business or organization that currently serves veterans in some capacity.
Patriot of the Future: An individual under 21 years of age who either actively serves the military or veterans or plans on enlisting.
